What is activated charcoal | Quick Fix Facials

Looking for a natural remedy to banish the blackheads? We have the answer – activated charcoal!

Renowned for solving all of life’s major problems, including stained teeth, bloating and high cholesterol (we warned you, it does just about everything); activated charcoal is a potent natural ingredient which can remove toxins and dirt when applied as part of your skincare regime.

The good news is, our best-selling Black Peel Mask features activated charcoal, alongside skin-clearing Witch Hazel and retexturizing Allantoin.

What exactly IS activated charcoal?

It’s time to address the elephant in the room… activated charcoal is NOT what you’re throwing onto the BBQ. The word ‘activated’ simply means that the original charcoal has been heated or treated to increase adsorption and removes toxins, making it safe for the skin.

Heating and grinding a natural source, like coconut shells – or in the case of our black charcoal peel off mask – bamboo, produces activated charcoal.

Why is it good for my skin?

Your everyday cleanser is designed to remove surface dirt, whereas a mask which includes activated charcoal has been developed specifically to absorb oil and draw-out impurities from the pores – making this type of product an ideal choice for congested and oily skin types.

Due to its binding nature, activated charcoal can easily get to work removing the dirt and environmental toxins which often lead to breakouts. It’s also typically accompanied by other skin-clearing ingredients like Aloe Vera and Witch Hazel to tackle and soothe blemishes at the same time.

How often should I use activated charcoal?

There is no definitive answer to how frequently charcoal-based skincare should be used, but we recommend using our Black Peel Mask (due to its strong, peel-off nature) no more than once or twice a week to witness optimum results.
